Finally Portugal beats France to win Euro 2016

From the best loser to the winner without their most popular player in active form, Portugal has finally won the Euro 2016 final in a fierce match.

Despite losing the talismanic Cristiano Ronaldo in the 25th minutes of the first half due to injury, and also looking as if they were happy to settle for spot-kicks from around an hour into the game, Portugal found a way to win in extra time.

Eder turns out to be the unlikely hero. The substitute rifling who came in in the 79th minute of the game was able to spin one for the Portuguese in the 109th minute, leaving the French in almost despair.

Twelve years after losing in their last appearance in a major final they have finally got their hands on a trophy.
