Photo: Policeman Arrested For Shooting His GirlFriend Dead In South Africa

21-year-old Noxolo Gcabashe, (Pictured above) who was killed by her 37-year-old boyfriend on Sunday evening, September 27th, in Maphumolo near KwaDukuza, South Africa. He tried to kill himself as well, but survived and is in serious condition in hospital.

Earlier on Sunday, Noxolo apparently told the suspect to take his child from a previous relationship home and on the way back he was involved in a car accident.

A source said the relationship between the suspect and his baby mama ended badly before he got involved with Noxolo. Sources close to the couple said the cop was very loving towards Noxolo but had a short temper.

"We don’t know if he blamed Noxolo for the car accident, because when she asked him where the car was he responded with a hail of bullets," said the source.

A member of Noxolo’s family said the boyfriend called the family on Tuesday.

"He said he was sorry for everything and was willing to take on all the burial expenses if we would allow him, to do so," she said.

She also claimed the boyfriend even gave the family the pin number for his bank card.

"We will be meeting with his family after we have decided whether we want him to bury our child or not," said a family member.

Colonel Jay Naicker said:
"A case of murder was opened. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage."

14-year-old Girl Rescued From 40-Year-Old Lover, Flees Home Again In Lagos

2 weeks after a 14-year-old girl, Rosemary, (pictured abive) was rescued from the apartment of her alleged 40-year-old lover, Chukwu Nkenna, the teenager has gone missing again in the Agege area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Rosemary, who hails from Jos, Plateau State, had been taken away from Nkenna’s apartment at Obelle Junction, Surulere, on Monday, September 8, by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Rosemary, who reportedly came to Lagos State in January 2014, had been in the care of a non-governmental organisation interested in girl education, before she left in December 2014, due to financial challenges.

The teenager was said to have met Nkenna, more commonly known as Kema, in the Surulere area around January 2015. She was reportedly staying in Nkenna’s house, who hails from Delta State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that in July, neighbours reported to the police in Surulere that Rosemary was being sexually abused and was suspected to be pregnant.

It was gathered that the Surulere Police Division on Friday, August 21, arrested Nkenna, for allegedly raping the teenager.

The matter was said to have been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, on Monday, August 24.

The police at SDCI were said to have later released Nkenna, while the victim was asked to seek medical attention.

Our correspondent gathered that Rosemary thereafter went back to Nkenna to continue to stay with him.

The matter was said to have also been brought to the attention of MWAPA, which sent its officials to take the girl from the suspect’s house on September 8.

It was learnt that Rosemary was billed to go to a government rehabilitation centre, but she opted to stay in the Agege area with her uncle.

Our correspondent learnt that on Sunday, October 13, Rosemary reportedly sneaked out of her uncle’s apartment in Agege, and had since not been found.

When our correspondent visited Nkenna’s apartment in Surulere on the trail of the teenager, she was not found. Nkenna was also said to have travelled out of Lagos State, and was unavailable for comment.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Rosemary’s uncle, who identified himself simply as Benjamin, said, “When Nkenna was initially arrested by the police and taken to SDCI, the police failed to follow up the matter. They released him, and said we should allow the girl to marry the man since they were both lovers.

“I was not happy with the way they treated that case. When they asked the two of them to go home, she returned to Nkenna’s house until she was taken from the apartment by government officials.

“Days later, she fled, and since that time, we have been looking for her. She called one of my brothers two days ago, but she did not tell us where she was staying. We asumed that she is with the suspect. We do not have Nkenna’s number. So, we cannot reach him.

“We want the state government to arrest Nkenna and bring our daughter back. There was a time that Nkenna called the family with Rosemary’s number, and we asked him to show up, but he refused. We are still looking for her.”

When our correspondent got to MWAPA in Alausa, an official, who confirmed that the ministry was handling the case, said the director of the Child Protection Unit was unavailable for comment.

“The case was reported to the unit by an NGO, and we are working on it. The director is not around to talk on it,” she added.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said investigation was ongoing on the matter.

He said, “We have the case at the SDCI, and what we are investigating is alleged rape. The police do not get involved in cases of relationships and marriages. If the girl is a minor, the police know she cannot give a valid consent.

“The family of the girl should find out where their daughter is, and let the police know so we can assist in recovering her. If the suspect is given an administrative bail, he will come back on the day he is asked to report. If he does not show up, then we know what to do.”

18+! Naked British Skinny Dippers Jumped Into An Icy Sea To Raise Funds For Mental Health

About 300 to 350 people stripped off and ran into the surf to raise money for mental health charity, MIND. Many in hundreds of skinny dippers screamed in excitement as they all took a plunge into the North Sea yesterday. The charity fund-raisers took part in the event at Druridge Bay, Northumberland, described as the "ultimate ice bucket challenge".

They gathered at 5.30am to see a glorious dawn and then launched themselves into the waves. Most ran as quickly as they could into the surf, while others de-robed from onesies and warm winter woollies to take a stroll on the sands before dipping into the freezing cold waters of the North Sea.

The dippy dippers described it as an 'exhilarating' experience, and are likely to be back for more next year.

Stop Condemning Homos3xuals, They Don’t Deserve It – Catholic Bishops Tell Nigerians

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, CBCN has appealed to Nigerians, especially Nigerian media to stop condemning homosexuals and Lesbians in Nigeria. The bishops stated this in an article titled “Still on Same-Sex Union and the Stand of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria”, which was shared by the group’s director of social communication, Chris Anyanwu.

According to the article, the bishops welcomed the Nigerian government's anti-gay law but they do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err but to help them unto salvation.

The article reads in part

“There is certainly an obsession by some journalists about ‘severe punishment of gays or lesbians’ and they try to twist the Bishops’ statements to articulate their views. Nigerian Catholic bishops are very responsible pastors who do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err, but to help them unto salvation. In wrongly reading the letter of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in January 2015 to President Goodluck Jonathan, some international organizations mischievously reduced the CBCN position to advocating severe punishment of gays or lesbians with long prison terms. What the CBCN supported, blessed and commended in their letter of 21st January, 2015 to former President Goodluck Jonathan was because the Nigerian government upheld the dignity and sanctity of marriage even in the face of all sorts of pressure. When, therefore, the federal government resisted the attempt to impose this culture on Nigerians by legislating against ‘same-sex union’, the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria felt a sense of great relief and issued a statement to affirm government’s decision. The Archbishop Kaigama we know is a careful and pastorally-minded prelate who would not have used such words as: ‘shameful’, ‘barbaric’, ‘madness’, etc. to refer to anyone. Our stand was and is ‘no to same sex union’ and ‘no to spreading of the homosexual culture’ which can only complicate our struggle to uphold traditional/ religious/moral values in our country,” he said.

1st OCTOBER: Full Text Of President Buhari's Independence Speech

OCTOBER 1 is a day for joy and celebrations for us Nigerians whatever the circumstances we find ourselves in because it is the day, 55 years ago; we liberated ourselves from the shackles of colonialism and began our long march to nationhood and to greatness.

No temporary problems or passing challenges should stop us from honoring this day. Let us remind ourselves of the gifts God has given us. Our Creator has bequeathed to us Numbers – Nigeria is the ninth most populated country on the planet. We have in addition:

• Arable land
• Water
• Forests
• Oil and gas
• Coastline
• Solid minerals

We have all the attributes of a great nation. We are not there yet because the one commodity we have been unable to exploit to the fullest is unity of purpose. This would have enabled us to achieve not only more orderly political evolution and integration but also continuity and economic progress.

Countries far less endowed have made greater economic progress by greater coherence and unity of purpose.

Nonetheless, that we have remained together is an achievement we should all appreciate and try to consolidate. We have witnessed this year a sea change in our democratic development. The fact that an opposition party replaced an entrenched government in a free and fair election is indicative of the deeper roots of our democratic system. Whatever one’s views are, Nigerians must thank former President Jonathan for not digging-in in the face of defeat and thereby saving the country untold consequences.

As I said in my inaugural speech, I bear no ill will against anyone on past events. Nobody should fear anything from me. We are not after anyone. People should only fear the consequences of their actions. I hereby invite everyone, whatever his or her political view to join me in working for the nation.

My countrymen and women, every new government inherits problems. Ours was no different. But what Nigerians want are solutions, quick solutions not a recitation of problems inherited. Accordingly, after consultations with the Vice President, senior party leaders and other senior stakeholders, I quickly got down to work on the immediate, medium-term and long-term problems which we must solve if we are to maintain the confidence which Nigerians so generously bestowed on us in the March elections and since then.

As you know, I toured the neighboring countries, marshal a coalition of armed forces of the five nations to confront and defeat Boko Haram. I met also the G-7 leaders and other friendly presidents in an effort to build an international coalition against Boko Haram. Our gallant armed forces under new leadership have taken the battle to the insurgents, and severely weakened their logistical and infrastructural capabilities. Boko Haram are being scattered and are on the run. That they are resorting to shameless attacks on soft targets such as IDP camps is indicative of their cowardice and desperation. I have instructed security and local authoritiesto tighten vigilance in vulnerable places.

On power, government officials have held a series of long sessions over several weeks about the best way to improve the nation’s power supply in the safest and most cost effective way. In the meantime, improvement in the power supply is moderately encouraging. By the same token, supply of petrol and kerosene to the public has improved throughout the country. All the early signs are that within months the whole country would begin to feel a change for the better.

Preliminary steps have been taken to sanitise NNPC and improve its operations so that the inefficiency and corruption could be reduced to a minimum. Those of our refineries which can be serviced and brought back into partial production would be enabled to resume operations so that the whole sordid business of exporting crude and importing finished products in dubious transactions could be stopped.

In addition to NNPC, I have ordered for a complete audit of our other revenue generating agencies mainly CBN, FIRS, Customs, NCC, for better service delivery to the nation. Prudent housekeeping is needed now more than ever in view of the sharp decline in world market oil prices. It is a challenge we have to face squarely. But what counts is not so much what accrues but how we manage our resources that is important.
We have seen in the last few years how huge resources were mismanaged, squandered and wasted. The new APC government is embarking on a clean up, introducing prudence and probity in public financing.

At an early stage, the Federal Government addressed the issue of salary arrears in many states, a situation capable of degenerating into social unrest. The APC government stepped in to provide short-term support to the owing states and enabled them to pay off the backlog and restore the livelihood of millions of Nigerians.

Fellow Nigerians, there have been a lot of anxiety and impatience over the apparent delay in announcement of ministers. There is no cause to be anxious. Our government set out to do things methodically and properly. We received the handing over notes from the outgoing government only four days before taking over. Consequently, the Joda Transition Committee submitted its report on the re-organisation of Federal Government structure after studying the hand over notes. It would have been haphazard to announce ministers when the government had not finalised the number of ministries to optimally carry the burden of governance.

Anyway, the wait is over. The first set of names for ministerial nominees for confirmation has been sent to the senate. Subsequent lists will be forwarded in due course. Impatience is not a virtue. Order is more vital than speed. Careful and deliberate decisions after consultations get far better results. And better results for our country is what the APC government for CHANGE is all about.

I would like to end my address this morning on our agenda for CHANGE. Change does not just happen. You and I and all of us must appreciate that we all have our part to play if we want to bring change about. We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust. We must change our unruly behavior in schools, hospitals, market places, motor parks, on the roads, in homes and offices. To bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.

Happy Independence celebrations. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Boko Haram Now Poisoning Water Sources - Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army Yesterday, 30th raised alarm that the extremist Boko Haram sect has now resorted to poisoning water sources as a new war strategy following severe defeats it has suffered in the hands of Nigerian troops.

The Army, in a statement by its Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Tukur Gusau, said the terrorists were now poisoning streams and wells in villages.
