It was gathered on Wednesday that a mob in Owerri battered him to death.

Emeka, a native of Aguneze in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, was said to have confessed to the mob that he could not remember the number of persons he had killed.

The irate mob subsequently inflicted injuries on him before the intervention of the state police command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, told Punch correspondent that Fela had already been battered to death before the intervention of the police, adding that efforts to revive him at a hospital proved abortive.

The PPRO said the police would have loved to interrogate him so that his gang members could be nabbed. He said,
Emeka was confirmed dead on arrival at the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, Owerri. Emeka, aka Fela, and his gang members were responsible for the multiple robberies and murder cases in the state. One of them was the case of Chigozie Onyemeam, who was attacked in front of the Federal High Court, Owerri, on June 26, 2016.”
