Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has lamented that corruption had permeated every stratum of the Nigerian society.
Osinbajo also blamed corruption for poverty and other challenges facing the nation. The vicepresident spoking in Ado Ekiti on Friday, October 21, during the 016 convocation ceremonies of the Afe Babalola University, said the present administration’s fight against corruption will touch every sector in the society, the Punch reports. He said: “I have great respect for Chief Afe Babalola because of his stand against corruption. “Sometimes in 2002, Chief Babalola argued the case for the establishment of Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission where he let the court realised that corruption is the greatest problem of our nation. “All the institutions of government , I mean the executive, legislature and the judiciary are corrupt. What we need is serious reorientation . That is why ABUAD is a great university because it teaches learning , character and morality. So, value reorientation is a key weapon to fight corruption.

“That was why the present federal government is intervening, because if we refuse, every facet of the country will fail. We must act fast and deal with the situation as quickly as possible.” Also at the event, Governor Ayodele Fayose called on the federal government to support the state in the construction of an airport. In his response, the Osinbajo said Ekiti state deserves an airport “but I have discussed what we need in return with his Excellency”. He said the federal government will continue to give support to every project that will fast-track development in each of the states of the federation. In another development, Yemi Osinbajo has spoken on how he was nominatedn to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election. Osinbajo, speaking at a dinner organised for former Niger Delta agitators at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, October 19, said he was he was nominated by “somebody somewhere”. The vice president however refrained from disclosing the identity of who nominated him.
