The much talked about technological take-off will not be possible, if Nigeria does not encourage local scientists, observes, Onwuka Okorie, chairman, Face of Abia Communications, an Aba-based media outfit.
Okorie in a statement made available to BUSINESSDAY, observed further that Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, would be the pivot for Nigeria’s technological breakthrough if the budding and talented scientists and manufacturers in the commercial city are properly harnessed.
He explained that goods manufactured in Aba and other parts of Abia State had found a market in not only the Sub-Saharan Africa, but also in the United Kingdom. He urged Government and the organized private sector to expose these talents to modern techniques of production to beef up their entrepreneurial skills.[ads-post]
“We have the human infrastructure, all we need are the machines that will increase production and ensure quality products”. He revealed plans by his firm to organize an exhibition of Made- In-Aba products on December 9 to 10, 2016 to expose locally made goods and attract fresh investments into the area. Aba is the epicenter of business in the Southeast of Nigeria and a gateway to the oil-rich Niger Delta region serving as a natural
trade route both by rail and road to various Nigerian cities.
Aba, touted to be the Japan of Africa, due to entrepreneurial
activities that go on in the city, has talented garment and finished
leather makers and machine fabricators.
