Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno , the former Minister of Mines, Power and Petroleum Resources, is reported to be dead at the age of 90.
It is reported that the Secretary to Borno State Government, Alhaji Jidda Shuwa, announced in a statement, that the statesman died on Friday the 8th day of July in Maiduguri.

The statement issued by Borno State Government read:
“It is with a deep sense of loss and profound sadness that we announce, on behalf of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State and the Borno State Government, the passage of our father and distinguished Statesman, Alhaji (Dr.) Shettima Ali Monguno”
He said the deceased would be buried on Saturday the 9th day of July 2016 in Maiduguri after a funeral prayer at 2 p.m. He was born in 1926 in Monguno, Borno
His elementary education was at Monguno primary school, then he attended Teacher’s College Bauchi and Katsina, College of Arts, Science and Technology Zaria, Moray House college of Education and the University of Edinburgh.
He was a parliamentarian in the First Republic and was appointed the Minister of Air Force and Internal Affairs between 1965 and 1966.
The late Monguno was also the President of OPEC from 1972 to 1973.
