Checkout the Bad Condition of Onitsha-Enugu Express Way - Pictures

This is the current horrible state of Onitsha-Enugu Express Way, Anambra state. This road has proven to be the worst in this country. Small cars no longer make use of this road as it will get stuck in the middle of it.
Bad Condition of Onitsha-Enugu Express Way

This road has been in a deplorable condition since Obasanjo's era, and he completely neglected it.

An unfulfilled contract was awarded by Yaradua and then rewarded during Jonathan's tenure.

If not for the action of the state governments (Enugu and Anambra ) in the refurbishment of the old road and the Onitsha axis motorists would have been in a terrible situation.

When the Southeast people complain of marginalization by the FG, it will seem as if they are just making up stories to attract pity or something, but this is the truth.

[ads-post]

Just like this very road, no other project was attracted to the southeast; this very road is one of the busiest roads in the southeast because it links, some northern parts of the nation to the east and south and even the west. This very road linked Asaba, Owerri Enugu, and so many other north central states with axis from Enugu.

Anambra state government took the bull by the horns and constructed from Niger bridge up to Umunya (Odumodu junction) because it Is the most sophisticated parts of the commercial city of Anambra + its residential areas,

Also, the state government took it upon itself to revamp from Amawbia to Amansea( Awka, the capital city) because that road is also crucial to the development and infrastructures, both businesses and residential areas, + it will help boost the IGR for the state.

All these they did, hoping to get a refund from FG, but none came.

And later, people will come Southeast to other parts of the country,

We only pray PMB will right the wrongs of FG in the past.

Boko haram fuel suppliers arrested by troops - Pictures

The Quick Reinforcement Force (QRF) of 251 Battalion, 7 Div Gar on routine checks, arrested a truck loaded with 25 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit and other goods cleverly covered and concealed at Molai checkpoint. This is the outskirts of Maiduguri, and it happened at about 8.00am yesterday the 19th day of July 2016.

Boko haram fuel suppliers arrested by troops

Muhammadu Adamu,  the driver of the vehicle, claimed he did not know the contents of the vehicle and called the owner of the goods, Tijjani Gambo to explain. Gambo also denied supplying terrorist fuel and other items; rather he claimed to be a mere trader that supplies goods to customers in Damboa based on demand.

[ads-post]

A preliminary investigation showed that he do transport PMS and other goods through the same route regularly  without an identifiable recipient in Damboa as alleged. Although investigations are still ongoing, it is suspected that it could be the means through which he had been supplying Boko Haram with dire logistics in Sambisa forest.

2016 admissions to be giving after appropriate screening of thecandidates by the institutions – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has given the condition for the 2016 admissions, saying it will only give approval “after an appropriate screening of the candidates by the institutions.

2016 admissions to be giving after appropriate screening of the candidates by the institutions – JAMB

The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Ojerinde said, “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board wishes to state that the latest list of candidates sent to all the tertiary institutions contains candidates who qualified for screening based on the individual institution’s capacity. It’s not in any way an admission list.

“However, if this list is not sufficient for the need of any institution, such institution can source from the omnibus printout earlier sent to them by the board. The public and all tertiary institutions should note that admission will only be approved by the board after an appropriate screening of the candidates by the institutions.

“The list, which is made up of candidates, who met the national cut-off point within the set criteria, is sent to the institutions. Again, for purposes of clarity, all institutions that have the need for more can source from their omnibus printout as stated above. The candid intention of the board is to ensure that available spaces are adequately utilised.”

[ads-post]

The Federal Government had, on Saturday, clarified its ban on Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the general admission procedure.

It said it “does not in any way affect the statutory role of the Senate of any university or the academic board of any tertiary institution conducting its admissions.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, also made the clarification in a statement by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Education, Mr Ben. Bem-Goong.

He said the clarification became necessary “following conflicting reports in the media over the roles of universities and JAMB in admission under the new dispensation.

According to him, the role of JAMB is to conduct the UTME, compile the list of candidates whose scores meet the cut-off marks (180 and above) and send same to the universities.

The institutions, he emphasised, would shortlist the candidates, use the agreed guidelines and after that return the shortlisted candidates to JAMB for verification of compliance with the guidelines and issuance of JAMB admission letters.

For the avoidance of doubt, any screening charges shall apply only to successful candidates, who have been issued admission by the universities of their choice,” Adamu stated.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, has said the Senate of universities in the country should be responsible for setting standards for admissions into their institutions.

Garba stated this while answering questions at the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja.

The vice-chancellor faulted the situation where JAMB and the Ministry of Education set standards for admission into the university.

Garba stated, “Universities have autonomy by law; each university should set its criteria for taking students.

But of course, JAMB and the ministry are saying that because it is our country, we must have a policy that regulates, so that we have a good balance but not on quality.

“A University Senate is supposed to set the standard for accepting students that it takes and trains and graduates.

“We are hoping that very soon, we will resolve this matter because it is getting more and more embarrassing.

“Even the state universities have told the Federal Government that education is in the concurrent list in the constitution.

“The Federal Government has no control and should not have control over a state university; they have a council appointed by the governor.

“They can only fulfil NUC’s standard requirements, but not admission quota.’’

The ABU vice-chancellor explained that the minister’s directive, leading up to the scrapping of the post-UTME, had created an impasse in universities as they had yet to begin admissions.

According to him, universities could not take the products of JAMB without further testing them.

He said that universities, being the recipients of the candidates, should be able to select those they could train.

Garba added, “We found it, like universities, that the post-UTME tests are the best to get the best. JAMB is only trying to improve, but still not perfect to a point that we can trust.

“Post-UTME has a history; even when it started, JAMB encouraged us to do it. JAMB is improving, but it is not yet there because every year, we receive these products, and we see what they are.

He said that in 2016, ABU had 49,000 applicants, who scored above 180 points while its admission capacity was 6,500.

How Man killed girlfriend at Taola hotel in Adeyemi Street, Ikotun,Lagos – Full Story

Hotel worker Ifunanya Eke – Found Dead
– Man flees as lover dies in Taola Hotel Prince Adeyemi Street, Ikotun, Lagos
The police in Lagos State have launched a manhunt for a man suspected to have murdered his lover at a hotel in Prince Adeyemi Street, Ikotun, Lagos.

How Man killed girlfriend at Taola hotel in Adeyemi Street, Ikotun, Lagos – Full Story

It was learnt that the suspect, whose name had yet to be ascertained, had lodged in a room in the hotel – Taola Hotel – with his girlfriend around 9.30pm on Friday. He was said to have paid for one hour which was supposed to elapse around 10.30pm.

Workers of the facility, however, became worried when it was 12 am and the guests did not check out of the hotel.

The manager of the hotel, identified only as Ahmadu, was said to have gone to check the room only to discover that the woman was dead, while the suspect had fled.

Ahmadu reported the case at the Ikotun Police Division, while the remains of the victim were deposited in a morgue.

[ads-post]

A resident of the area, Jibola Adesina, said no one could explain how the suspect escaped from the hotel.

He said, “The police came to remove the corpse. No one can say how the man managed to flee from the hotel because it has only one entrance.

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man had said he wanted to buy something outside the hotel and fled afterwards, adding that the management suspected something was wrong when he did not return.

I learnt from one of the workers in the hotel that the man came out of the room around 10 pm. He said he wanted to buy something outside. He left but did not return. It was when they waited in vain for his lover to step out that they decided to go into the room. She was found dead,” he said.

A worker of the hotel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent during a visit to the area on Sunday that the incident “shook everyone”.

He said the lovers had come to have “a nice time”, adding that their details were not collected because they did not have the intention of passing the night.

He said, “It was unfortunate. They just came to spend a short time together. That was why their details were not taken. The case was reported to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police were investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has begun investigations into the sudden death of a hotel worker, identified as Ifunanya Eke.

Our correspondent gathered that Eke was found dead in a room last Tuesday at the Top Suite Hotel and Kitchen on Tunde Odeyemi Street, Ikotun.

The hotel management was said to have reported the case at the Ikotun Police Division.

A police source said only an autopsy would determine the actual cause of her death.

He said, “We were called to the incident by the management of the hotel. They said the woman had been working with them for some time, and she retired to her room because she was on night duty. By morning, they discovered that she didn’t come out of the room, and when the door was opened, they saw that she was dead.”

The PPRO, Badmos, said police officers from the Ikotun division examined and photographed the scene, adding that there were no violent marks on the corpse.

She said, “It is a case of sudden and unnatural death. The woman, Ifunanya Eke, was a worker with Top Suit Hotel and Kitchen. She was allegedly found dead in a room at the hotel where she slept that night.

“A team of police detectives attached to the Ikotun division visited, examined and photographed the scene. There was no trace of violence on her body.

Photos of 23 suspected Fulani Herdsmen evicted from Cross River State

On Friday, in Obudu, a joint team of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Police Force evicted at least 23 suspected Fulani herdsmen who were identified as illegal migrants from Niger Republic, Punch reports.

The eviction was coordinated in conjunction with the office of the State Security Adviser. The immigrants were escorted to Gakem, a border town between Cross River and Benue states, from where they will be led out of the country.

A witness, Sunday Alenke, said,
They came into Obudu a few months ago and have been selling traditional medicines to people and penetrating the villages.

But our people have noticed them and there is outcry to get them out because of the prevailing security situation involving Fulani herdsmen in nearby Benue State and across the country. Our people have expressed serious fears about their presence.

The Immigration invited them and they found out that some of them had expired ECOWAS passports while others did not have any paper at all. So, they decided to get them out of Obudu. They handed them over to a monitoring team in Benue State that will see them out of the country.”

When contacted, the State Security Adviser, Jude Ngaji, said the migrants were evacuated because they had no valid documents and could not convince the security personnel on why they came to Obudu. He noted that the exercise was carried out in the most civil manner.

64-year-old Rosemary Johns was born and partly raised in Tanzania.The mother-of-8 went to Nairobi, Kenya, where the hard life forced her into commercial sex in 1984.

She got married at 16, but after some time in marriage, her husband started neglecting her after she gave birth to five children.

Rosemary figures that she could serve up to 40 men on a good day and between 5 and ten men on a bad day. The staunch baptized Christian, who never misses church on Sunday, is considering to retire.

She says she had started small leso business after getting Ksh70,000 loan from a local bank, but fire razed down her house and shop in March 2016, forcing her back to prostitution.

She said:

It has been a long journey, and I’ve slept with more than 5,000 men in more than 20 years.

1.350 billion naira Fayose's property seized by EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC just seized six properties allegedly acquired by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State with stolen money.

The duplexes, estimated at N1.350billion include four in Lagos and two in Abuja. They were allegedly acquired for him by his associate, Abiodun Agbele and sister. Mrs Moji Ladeji.

A furious Mrs Ladeji has approached the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti laying claim to one of the Abuja duplexes.

EFCC, according to impeccable sources, believe that the properties were bought with public funds including the N1.219billion slush fund from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) handed over to Fayose by former Minister of Defence, Mr Musiliu Obanikoro, and bribe money from contractors.

Part of the funds came from the N4.745billion, which was paid into Obanikoro’s company, Sylva Mcnamara by ONSA for the 2014 Ekiti governorship poll.

Operatives of the anti-graft commission have located and marked the duplexes as follows: 44, Osun Crescent and 32, Yedseram Street in Maitama, Abuja; and houses 3, 4, 6, and 9 in Plot 100, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

EFCC sources said the funds were wired to pay for the duplexes.
While the duplex on Osun Crescent was allegedly bought for N200million from Skye Bank Plc, the one located in Yedseram Street in Abuja was purchased for N270million from a business person, Rabi Kundili.

All the houses in Lagos were paid for by Abiodun Agbele, the detained associate of the governor who is currently under investigation.

Agbele allegedly paid over N880 million for the Lagos properties.
Sources said the duplexes were “acquired within 180 days in office by Fayose.”
“We have discovered that he paid for the houses through his associate’s company, De-Privateer Limited of Agbele.

“De-Privateer remitted slush funds into three accounts including FCMB (0519693019), First Bank of Nigeria (1000070240) and Zenith Bank (1014016919).
“The payments were made as follows:

First Bank—N40m (29/1/15);
N39.5m (30/1/15);
N132.5 (30/1/ 15);
N3.2m (4/2/15);
N980, 000(4/2/15);
N200m (17/2/15);
N47m (13/2/15);
N50m (13/2/15).

“The lodgements in an account in Zenith Bank (1014016919) included
N42.5m (9/4/15);
N25m (23/4/15);
N229m (6/3/15).
“About N200million was paid into FCMB account 0519693019 on March 9, 2015.”

He said the anti-graft agency seized the properties by invoking sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004 and Section 13(1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004 which empowers the anti-graft agency to invoke Interim Assets Forfeiture Clause.

“Section 28 of the EFCC Act reads: ‘Where a person is arrested for an offence under this Act, the Commission shall immediately trace and attach all the assets and properties of the person acquired as a result of such economic or financial crime and shall thereafter cause to be obtained an interim attachment order from the Court.’

Section 13 of the Federal High Court Act reads in part: “The Court may grant an injunction or appoint a receiver by an interlocutory order in all cases in which it appears to the Court to be just or convenient so to do.

(2) “Any such order may be made either unconditionally or on such terms and conditions as the Court thinks just.”

The source added: “One of the suspects in custody, Agbele, has been linked to the purchase of most of all these properties. In fact, funds for the purchase of these mansions were laundered through the account of Agbele’s company called De-Privateer.

“Since the houses are under investigation, we have decided to invoke the assets forfeiture clause in our Act.”
Responding to a question, the source said: “The EFCC has secured a fresh court order to keep Agbele in custody because the on-going investigation has not been concluded.

“So, the governor’s associate is still in detention because we have invited more people linked with the money laundering for the governor.”
The source confirmed that Fayose’s sister, Mrs Moji Ladeji has filed an affidavit in court claiming that she is the real owner of the property on Osun Crescent, Maitama District, Abuja.
“We will meet her in court with all the evidence at our disposal,” the source added.

The EFCC had secured a court order from Justice M. B. Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos to freeze the accounts of Fayose, a development which the governor is already challenging in court.

In an affidavit by an Investigating Officer, Tosin Owobo, the commission said: “That the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the exercise of his statutory mandate contained in Section 34 of the EFCC Act having satisfied himself that the various sums of money in the account No. 1003126654, 9013074033, 1010170969 and 1013835888 domiciled with the 2nd Respondent were made through the Commission of the an economic and financial crimes to wit: stealing and receiving gratification approached the Federal High Court Lagos Judicial Division, for an order directing the Manager of the 2nd Respondent to freeze the said accounts.

“That in his wisdom, Hon. Justice M.B Idris granted the 1st Respondent’s application wherein an order of interim attachment was made on the aforementioned accounts. Attached and marked exhibit EFCC 09 is a certified true copy of the said order.

“That the said order was a preservative order to prevent further dissipation of proceeds of crimes.”
The EFCC also had succeeded in establishing money laundering link between Fayose and Agbele.
The investigation revealed as follows; “The N1, 219, 490,000 was not deposited in any account, but it was kept in a vault in the bank. It took the bank officials about ten days to count. The bankers refused to make entry until it was counted.

“Shortly after confirming the figure, Abiodun was used to coordinate the disbursement of the funds. On June 26, 2014, the wanted associate (Abiodun Agbele) paid N137million into Ayodele Fayose’s account 10003126654 with Zenith Bank through Teller-0556814. Fayose’s BVN on the teller is 22338867502. On August 22, 2014, he paid N50million into the same account. By the records from the bank, Abiodun paid another N118, 760,000 into Fayose’s account on 27/8/14.
“Based on the transfers, Fayose moved N300million to a Fixed Deposit Account No 9013074033 with Zenith Bank at 15, Olusola Abiona Street, Olorunda Estate, Alapere Ketu. He has the same BVN-22338867502.

“After that, Abiodun deposited another N100million from the N1, 219, 490,000 into Spotless Hotel Account run by Fayose and his wife, Helen Olayemi Fayose with Account No. 1010170969, Fayose’s BVN is 223338867502 and his wife’s BVN in the account is 22298990256.
“The governor and his wife are the two directors and signatories of Spotless Hotel account.”

In the course of the investigation, the EFCC team dug up how De Privateer Limited (a company owned by Abiodun Agbele) with Account No. 1013835889 received the sum of N219, 490,000 on June 18, 2014.
“On June 19, 2014, the same account received N300million and another N200million on June 23, 2014. The BVN of the account is 22235692890.”

Why Igbo leaders cannot control pro Biafra Agitators- Okorie

United Progressives Party,UPP’s  presidential candidate in the last general elections,Chief Chekwas Okorie said many things in this interview. This is just excerpts from the interview. Read below:

What is your impression about the Biafra anniversary that turned bloody and the struggle for secession from Nigerian state?

The government we have today has an attitude towards the agitators for a separate state of Biafra which to my mind will not resolve the issues amicably. The attitude of the government is that there is no basis for dialogue. But the advice that I have given over and over again is that there is need for dialogue, there is need to discuss. Many eminent Nigerians have advocated for dialogue.

President Buhari has repeatedly said that the people who are agitating, most of them were not born during or before the war and, therefore, will not know what most of those who participated on both sides suffered and by his figures, Nigeria lost two million people.

I don’t know how he arrived at the two million to know which side lost more. And my attitude is that the fact that majority of these people were not born is the more reason they should be brought to the negotiation table. Buhari does not need to be involved personally, he is the president of Nigeria.

[ads-post]

There are so many agencies of government that can do that on their own or as a team. The office of the National Security Adviser,NSA, can handle this issue of dialogue, the Directorate of State Security can do it; even the office of the Inspector General of Police can handle it.

These are security agencies and departments of government that can handle this without direct involvement of the President and eventually advise the President on the best way to go. These young men cannot understand. We their fathers and elders cannot sufficiently convince them and nobody in Nigeria can explain to them why their situation is this miserable, nobody can tell them why their condition, compared to their peers from other parts of the country, is widely different.

Nobody can tell them why a graduate will remain unemployed for several years and his counterpart from another part of the country, especially from the North, will have jobs waiting for him even before graduation and, by the time some of them eventually get a place, they are subordinates to people they graduated the same year with. Nobody can tell them why to gain admission into university that somebody with about 200 points at University Matriculation Examination may not be considered to have earned enough to be admitted and another person from another part of the country with less than 100 points will gain admission.

What is the implication? The implication is that while he is still waiting to have that figure, that number that will admit him, that one that he is more brilliant than is ahead of him. There are so many things you can’t explain to these people and efforts have been made to restructure Nigeria, efforts have been made to remove some of the obnoxious policies but these have been restricted and so some of these people feel that if they confront government, they are dead, if they fail to confront government, they are dead.

So when you now sit them down and explain a few things to them and give them hope, perhaps their methods will be different, perhaps their attitude will be different and some of us who are their elders will also have a little peace of mind because, let nobody joke about it, most of us in our age and situation are under pressure too. We are even branded saboteurs, we are called names. If you go to social media, some of us are called names because the youths believe we have not done enough for them and we are asking government, ‘help us to help the country and also talk to these people’. We have been looking at a situation where government is looking for any way they can speak to leaders of Boko Haram.

Meanwhile, they don’t even know who their leaders are, they don’t even have access to them. If there is any chance that Niger Delta Avengers leaders are ready to discuss, government will have some relief. If the Shiite Muslims, who are a different sect from the Sunni and are also fighting in the North, are ready to sit down and discuss, the government will have some relief. Why is any body reluctant to open dialogue with these ones whose leaders are known?

These agitators are not hiding because they have chosen a none-violent approach. Is it when they have gone underground that anybody will begin to look for them to discuss? When it gets to that point, it will be a bit late and some of us who are prepared to stick out our necks out and broker discussion would have lost any form of legitimacy to invite the Avengers and pro-Biafra agitators to discuss. So, I continue to insist on the dialogue option because nothing tells me that there is another way.

The last government organised a National Conference. Looking at the discordant tunes emanating from different geo-political zones, what do you advise?

My position has been consistent and I have not seen any reason to change that position and that is that the recommendations of the conference should be implemented. I do not know who it hurts really, if those recommendations are implemented. I say this because that conference was not at the behest of the last government, it was a result of the pressure from different sections of the country that there was need for a National Conference. It will appear that the government became responsive and organized the conference. All the 36 states of Nigeria sent to the conference delegates they considered as their first eleven. The government of the day gave political parties which had elected people in the National Assembly slots to attend the conference.

APC was the only political party that did not take up its. But if all the 36 states sent delegates, it then means that majority of the states who are APC states sent delegates to that conference. And President Buhari has admitted by his own comment that nine billion Naira of public funds was spent on that conference even though he considered it a waste. I would have thought that what he will do was to justify that expenditure; after all government is a continuum; and look at the recommendations. But he said he has not read it, he had no intention to read it, he has no intention to set up any committee to form an opinion and advise him and that it will be sent to the archives. I find that very disturbing. My appeal here again is for him to have a rethink because the international community is watching. And the Biafran thing, there has been no attempt to suppress it here in Nigeria but it has happened in over one hundred countries outside Nigeria same day. The international community is watching and seeing that there is instability and chances of more instability that will not help us.

The President has a very robust ambitious budget, the largest Nigeria has ever had since independence, which, if implemented , will bring economic stability and he may end up being a very great President but, with this attitude, I wonder which investor will walk into an inferno to invest; with this attitude, I wonder what type of peace, stability that will allow the economy to grow. So, my advise remains that he should have a rethink about the recommendation of the National Conference and do something about it.

He accepted to continue to implement the projects he inherited from the government; that’s why he budgeted so much money to pay old debts, so much money to continue the projects in the budget and if he has this positive attitude, what is it about the National Conference that he has his mind so made up? I can’t put my finger at it but if he wants to jettison it, let him convene his own under his own template but this country must negotiate, this country must dialogue.
