Deji Babington-Ashaye, a PDP member, was yesterday, arraigned before a chief Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for calling Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun East Senatorial district, a drug baron and jail breaker.
He was alleged to have hurled abusive words on Kashamu on the PDP WhatsApp group, “PDP match to victory,” between March 13 and 14, 2016 at about 2:30pm, and was arrested by the Police and charged to court for engaging in the act that threatens the peace of the state.
The Prosecuting counsel, Sunday Eigbejiale said Babington-Ashaye conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by passing insult on Senator Kashamu. According to him, the accused challenged him to go to US clear the doubt.
With that, he committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 (d) of the criminal code cap 29 Vol.11 laws of Ogun state. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N250k, with two sureties in the like sum. He is to remain in prison till he meets the conditions.
