Woman appears in court for allegedly cutting neighbour with blade

A 24-year-old woman, Fadipe Funmilayo, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for cutting her neighbour with a razor blade.

Funmilayo, who resides at Sodimu Kayode Street, Oju Oro Road, Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abosede Adegeshin, told the court that the accused committed the offence at her residence.

"The accused and the complaint one Gbemisola Ayanlade both resides in the same place and had a misunderstanding on Aug.18, but was settled by the elders in the neighbourhood.

"Later that evening, the complainant went out to buy some things and was attacked by the accused; she pounced on her with a razor blade and cut her face with it.

"I pray this court to give her a very stringent bail because other neighbours testified that she is cruel and a threat to their community,’’ he said.

Adegeshin said the offence contravened Section 228 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence.

The Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the surety must show evidence of tax payment.

Olatunji ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison pending the perfection of her bail.

He adjourned the case till Sept.10, for mention.
