Photo: Meet Couple Who Celebrates 60th Wedding Anniversary By Taking A Bite From The Cake They Used On Their Wedding Day

A Florida couple has celebrated their anniversary every year for the past 60 years by eating a bite of their unrefrigerated wedding cake.

After tying the knot on August 19, 1955, Ann and Ken Fredericks saved the top tier of their wedding cake and have since shared a slice every August.

“Every year, we unwrap it, pour brandy over it  because you need to moisten it and we break off a piece,” Ann told Florida Today. “Now, our children are appalled that we would be eating something that's 60 years old. But believe me, it's quite tasty, as long as it's got enough brandy on it. And it's never made us sick.”

Ann's grandmother had made the three-layer dark fruitcake two months before the wedding so it could age and settle.

KenFredericks, 85, is a retired music teacher, and AnnFredericks, 81, is a former nurse. The couple met while attending SyracuseUniversity in New York. They've lived in Satellite Beach since 1971.

The Fredericks say after taking their annual bite they store the remains of the cake in a Maxwell House coffee can.
