37-Year-Old Man Sets Pregnant Lover Ablaze In Edo State

An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo State, sentenced 37-year-old Lucky Esonahae to five years imprisonment for setting his pregnant lover ablaze.

The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Ganiyu Yahya, told the court that the incident occurred at Uwelu Quartres in Benin, and was reported by the victim, Stella Isaac, on July 6, the same day it occurred.

Yahya said Esonahae had poured kerosene on the head of the woman, who was said to be seven months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire.

‎He said the victim was later rescued by one of her sons and one of her neighbours, who forced the door of her room open, as she had been locked in.

He said the victim, who was later rushed to the Central Hospital where she received treatment, however, sustained burns on her hands and forehead.

The police prosecutor‎ also told the court that Esonahae had earlier accused the pregnant woman of infidelity for allegedly returning at about 6pm from her antenatal and had threatened to kill her before she ran to her sister’s residence.

The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.

But the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, ‎said the court would not be lenient, adding that “for a 37-year-old man to set a lover on fire leaves much to be desired.”

She, therefore, sentenced him to five years imprisonment with hard labour.

Graphic Photo: Aunt Burnt Her 16-Year-Old Niece For Having S*x With A Landlady's Son

A 16-year-old girl identified as Bimpe Badmus is currently in pains from the injuries she sustained following an attack by her aunt. Bimpe’s aunt burnt her with a hot pressing iron, for allegedly having sexual affair with their landlady’s son in Ogunjirin Street, Ketu area of Lagos.

It was learnt that Bimpe’s aunt asked her friends, Khadijah and Iya Daniel to help hold her hands and legs before burning her with the hot iron on several parts of her body. A neighbour while reacting to the incident disclosed that the victim was severely beaten and chased out of the house.

The eyewitness said, “They all live in the same compound. It was Khadijah that told Bimpe’s aunt that she was sleeping with the landlady’s son. Khadijah brought the hot iron from her room and gave it to Miss Badmus’ aunt while she and Iya Daniel held her neck. It was when they chased her out that the neighbours rescued her.

“The annoying thing is that it is not as if these married women are clean. I don’t know why they did that to her. It was when residents couldn’t stand the horrible situation that they took them to Ketu police.”

Also reacting to the incident, one Fatai, who claimed to be the girl’s brother affirmed, “When I got to the police station to see Bimpe, I was sad because the sight was horrible. My sister was writhing in pain and when I asked the Divisional Police Officer to release her for treatment, he refused. I asked the aunt if she was under a spell to have gone this far because it won’t stop her from having an affair. This is cruel.”

The landlady’s son’s elder sister, Tope Abimbola, said: “Even before they were taken to the police station, she was in pain. I thought she was going to die. I quickly went to a nearby pharmacy to get an ointment to relief her of the pain. It is really painful. She has been admitted at the General Hospital, Ikeja and she is responding to treatment.”

Bimpe however denied the allegation saying, “He has never slept with me. I am really in pain. I can’t even go home because I don’t know what will happen. While they tortured me, they kept asking so many questions. I pray God heals me fast.”

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, DSP Patricia Amadin, said all the women involved in the assault have been apprehended and would be charged to court soon.

Two Sisters To Be Raped As Punishment For Their Brother’s Crime In Indian

2 sisters have been sentenced to rape as punishment which one of whom is15-year-old after their brother had an affair with a married woman in Indian.

An unelected all-male village council in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, ordered that Meenakshi Kumari, 23, and her teenage sister will also be paraded through the streets naked, with blackened faces, as they are made to pay the price for their brother's alleged transgressions.

The Kumaris are Dalits, or untouchables, placed at the very bottom of India's ancient and archaic caste system. According to Zee News, the pair's brother Ravi fell in love with a girl from the higher Jat caste, however the relationship was forbidden by the family elders. The girl was then forcibly married off to another man in February, but later eloped with Ravi. The Jat woman is now thought to be pregnant with his child.

Meenakshi has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking for protection. Her father has also lodged a complaint saying that his family has been harassed, not just by the family of the woman who has eloped, but also by the police.

The Khap panchayat, or village council has now decided that the barbaric "punishment" will be inflicted on the sisters as retribution. Sumit Kumar, another brother of Meenakshi, said that 'the Jat decision is final', adding, 'The police said anyone can be murdered now.'

Amnesty International has however launched a petition calling on India's authorities to intervene immediately and protect the two sisters.

Sad: Dog Eats Up 4-Months-Old Baby As Husband Sends Wife Packing In Asaba

37-year-old Maureen Akowe who has been looking for a child for three years after marriage due to delayed conception was blessed with a baby girl. She christened the baby Chinonso (meaning God is near).

Like most Nigerians who belong to the middle-class, Maureen employed a nanny to help care for her baby, who was already four months old. As expected of any nursing mother, anytime she took her baby out with her, her nanny moved along.

Last Friday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, the nursing mother, who is also a housewife but a graduate of Sociology from the Delta State University, Abraka, decided to get groceries for the family especially her baby, at a nearby supermarket along Okpanam road, Asaba. She took along her baby, her nanny and an Alsatian dog, which was the only pet the family had.

For anyone who loves pets, it is not strange to see them, not only as companions, but as friends in need. Maureen must have loved her dog and decided entrusting the security of both her baby and its nanny in the care of her dog. Maybe she had done that on a number of occasions and nothing negative happened.

On this fateful day when she got to the shopping mall, she pulled over at the car park and left all the occupants of the car, including the dog, to get items inside the mall. For proper ventilation, she wound down the windows of the car and dashed inside.

While she was shopping, sources at the car park said there was a shrill cry from the nanny, who suddenly alighted from the car and ran into the mall shouting, “Madam, baby! Madam, baby!” Panic-stricken passers-by and other shoppers asked what was amiss and she led them to the car.

By then, a motley of crowd had gathered and running towards the car park. The gory sight in the car elicited shouts from them especially the women. Four-month-old Chinonso, had its stomach ripped open with blood splattered on the car seat and the clothes used to wrap it. The dog, on the other hand, stood towering over the baby with blood stains on its mouth!

Taken aback by the crowd, the dog started barking ferociously and wanted to attack. Promptly, two security guards from the mall took the dog and chained it. It still kept barking and tried to scare away any attacker from the crowd.

“Na Madam carry dog put for car and talk say make I stay inside car with dog and baby,” the nanny, who identified herself as Ifeoma Chinedu, quickly told the angry crowd who wanted to know what went wrong inside the car.

“Madam talk say she dey carry dog go veterinary clinic. Na as I sit inside car the dog move close and want to bite Chinonso (baby). I shout when I see say the dog open him mouth. As I shout, the dog no hear me and I come run comot make I go call Madam. But she dey inside supermarket and no hear me. She no come outside here on time,” the nanny, who claimed to hail from one of the eastern states, concluded in tears.

While all these went on, the mother of the baby had arrived and was in tears. Obviously distraught, she rolled on the floor and kept shouting, “Chinonso!Chinonso! Chinonso!” She quickly took her baby and ran. But some sympathisers took hold of her and the baby to avoid running into any oncoming vehicle. They rushed the baby, who was bleeding from the stomach, to a nearby hospital along Nnebisi road.

The baby died before they could get to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the dog was in chains and kept away from the angry mob who wanted to kill it. They alleged witchcraft and that the dog was an evil agent.

When Sunday Punch visited the family house of the Akowes, sympathisers thronged the place. Patrick Akowe, father of the deceased four-month-old baby, who is a car dealer in Asaba, alleged that his wife killed the baby. According to him, Maureen had a premonition on July 13, 2015, of what the dog did to their baby.

“My wife had told me of a horrible dream she had of the dog she brought to this house,” he narrated tearfully.

“She said in the dream, the dog and the baby were seen on a big tree playing and all of a sudden, the dog kicked the baby from the tree and the baby fell and died. I screamed when she told me this dream and warned that the dog should be removed from the house. Few days later, my wife’s aunt, one Madam Beatrice Okonkwo, visited the house and while our interaction lasted, she claimed the dog was a guardian angel and on no account should the dog be sent out. After a while, I told my wife that the dog had started behaving in funny ways and should be taken away from our home but she said she would take it to the veterinary doctor for treatment.”

For a couple who had waited three years after marriage before having a baby, Akowe’s pains could not be imagined.

the distressed father added, “I was in my office when I got a call that a dog had eaten my baby at the supermarket. Initially, I was confused and when I saw everything, I decided that I have nothing to do with Maureen, my wife, again. That was her first and only child and because of the confession made by her relations indicating a witchcraft activity, I see the death of my baby as mysterious. I do not think I can have anything to do with her again.

“My wife said it is the devil’s work and the devil has succeeded in taking her out of my house. I have warned her about the dog but she did not listen.”

However, neither the distraught mother nor any of her relatives in Asaba could be contacted as of the time of filing this report. She had packed out of her matrimonial home.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said the woman (Maureen) was earlier interrogated. “She claimed that she was taking the dog to the vet for treatment when it wreaked havoc on her baby. We are still investigating the incidence while the dog is being kept in police custody for further investigation. We really want to know the root cause of the incident,” she said.

28 year old mother dumps new born baby in a nylon bag on the street

According to Mr and Mrs Osarhiakhi Ebohon, on June 13, 2015, a baby was dumped at Obazuaye Street in Evbuareke Quarters, Uselu, Benin City, at about 11am.
Residents saw a newborn baby wrapped in a black nylon bag. The Ebohons, among other residents, placed curses on whoever might have thrown the child away.

The police was invited to take away the baby who was later sent to the Ministry of Women Affairs in Edo State.

That night, Mrs. Ebohon observed that their oldest daughter, Joy, was acting different, so she tried to find out what her daughter’s problem was, to no avail.

So she told the husband to probe Joy to know what the problem was.

At about 5am the following day, Mr Ebohon woke Joy up and forcibly asked her to tell him the cause of her unease.
Joy then opened up to her parents that she was the one who dumped the child on the street.
Her angry father went to the police to report the matter.

Mr Ebohon then handed over the daughter to the police for prosecution.

She was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Benin by the police on June 17 and was remanded in Oko prisons pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the matter.

Now, Mr and Mrs Ebohon are appealing for the release of the daughter whose first son is barely two years old.
Narrating the incident, Ebohon, a farmer, said:
“I decided to go to the village to farm because of the difficulty to get money to train my children. My daughter, Osarhiakhi Joy, in jail now, left secondary school some years back. She is my eldest daughter and she is 28 years old.
About five years ago, she wrote her SSCE and passed all her papers and got admission into the College of Education, Ekiadolor, but I couldn’t pay the fees. I begged her to be patient till some other time. Before I knew it, she became pregnant. I called the boy responsible and told him that I didn’t want any stupid act and asked if he was going to marry her and he said yes.
Then I told him the condition that my daughter wanted to further her education by studying pharmacy and he said okay. So she gave birth to the first child, a boy, who is about two years now. After that, she told me she couldn’t be staying at home, that she wanted to learn a trade before gaining admission and pending when the husband, or myself would be financially okay to send her back to school. I said it was okay. That is how she started learning fashion designing.
She told her husband to come and beg me so that, at times, she could be staying with me because her place of work is closer to us and they don’t have their personal house. That is how she stated living with us again. I never knew she was pregnant this second time because I don’t stay in Benin; even the mother that stays in Benin never knew about it. I didn’t know she will be this clever to cover-up without our notice. “On June13, I came to Benin from the village to relax.
I discovered people were shouting that they discovered a baby very close to my compound. I never had the belief that it was my daughter who gave birth to the baby. I was taking my siesta that afternoon when I woke up and ran to the place and I had been hearing the cry of a little baby thinking it was the next compound. I and my wife were among the first person to place curse on the culprit. I was the same person who organized to go call the police that what the person did was bad.
“The next day when I was ready to go back to the village, my wife called me to say I should ask our daughter that the way she was looking at her, there were changes in her. Then I called my daughter at about 5 am and told her to tell me the truth so that I could help her. That was when she told me that she was the one, I was about to collapse but as a man I controlled myself and asked her who was responsible for the pregnancy. She said it was the husband though they are not married.
When I asked her why she behaved that way, she said when she told her husband about the pregnancy, he told her to go and abort it. She said she wanted to tell me but didn’t know what confused her. I was annoyed and took her hand to the chief security officer in my street to arrest her and let her suffer for what she has done so that others will learn from her.
Then I took my bag and left for the village because I was having an appointment that morning with some people that are going to work in my farm.
“The same day, they called the police and handed her over to them.
She was detained at Textile Mill Police Station with her mother. When I heard about it, I didn’t care because what she did, I was not happy with it. Since then she has been in custody. It was later I heard that she was remanded in Oko prisons after the Evboriaria Magistrate Court said it was not in the position to handle the case as it is within the jurisdiction of the High Court. So they sent the file to the DPP.
I said I wouldn’t be part of the case but it was later that people were begging me to realize that my daughter is not a wayward child; that something must have happened. Maybe the way the husband threatened her must have made her do it and she knows I don’t tolerate nonsense because I told her to be very careful as marriage is for better for worse.
Then I called the husband and asked if he was responsible for the baby, and he said no. I called the two sisters of the man and told them to ask their brother if he is the one. They started saying that their brother was not the father of the child, that he was ready to go anywhere for a test, that even the first child, he was not sure if he is the father, that he had to do a test before he could accept him.
In fact the boy said we should go to Ayelala (native doctor) to find out that he was not the father of the child. Now I have so much pity for my daughter who already has a two-year-old son with us. I want her released. I had to act the way I did because what she did was bad. But I have realized that my daughter has learnt from her mistakes.
We are going to take care of the child. People should realize that I am not a bad person; if I am, I would not have informed the police to arrest her. The child is at the orphanage home now. We will accept the baby if my daughter is released. I am begging the authorities”. Asked if she was not aware that her daughter was pregnant, Mrs Ebohon said, “ I was not aware of the pregnancy and I don’t know how she kept the pregnancy that I was not aware.
The first one, I was the one that detected it but this one she hid it from me. She told me that the husband is the cause of everything because she wanted to go to school when she got admission into the college of education. Because we didn’t have money, she couldn’t go to school, that is how the boy hooked her. After the father informed the police, they came to arrest us and took statement from me and her; fromTextile Mill Police Station, she was taken to Esigie Police Station.
She was there for some weeks and I have been going to see her and people were saying it was not her fault; she even said it was the husband who frustrated her that she had to hid it from us.
Though we were annoyed of what she did, people were begging us to pardon her that it is not her fault since she she was not able to take care of the first one. In fact she had that baby on June 13 but the child was discovered on June 16.
When we even went to the Ministry of Women Affairs to see the child, they said they will not allow us to see her.
My daughter is in prison now crying and begging God to forgive her, and release her to unite with her baby. She insists on going back to school if the opportunity comes”.
It was a pitiable sight when Sunday Vanguard, in the company of her parents, visited Joy at Oko prisons; she wept uncontrollably when she saw her son. Asked why she decided to throw away the child, she narrated:
“I was frustrated because my husband threatened that if I didn’t remove the pregnancy, he will not accept it. And I was afraid of telling my parents because my father will not take it lightly with me.
What happened was that I went to the toilet to have my bath. As I was bathing, I entered into labour, the child came out smoothly. I was confused on what to do. I got a nylon bag around, quickly poured water on my body to clean up the blood. I rushed out of the bedroom, walked down the street and quietly dropped the child on the ground and came back home”.
Asked how she felt when people were placing curses on her, she said:
“I was feeling very bitter inside me. I wept without people knowing why I was crying. It was because of my condition that my mother started suspecting me.
I was scared on what to do because my father will not be happy with me that my husband rejected the baby, while my husband warned me he will not accept the child if I kept it.
And I didn’t really want to abort the baby. I have prayed God to forgive me, people should forgive and allow me go and take care of my baby.
Poverty caused this problem for me, if not I would not have met this man. But God will judge him for rejecting this child that is his blood”.

Reject public funds stolen by your Husbands-Sultan advises women

The Sultan of Sokoto and President Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, advised Muslim women to fight against corruption by rejecting stolen public funds from their husbands who are public office holders. He said this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital yesterday during the formal opening of the 30th annual national conference of Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN).He also advised wives of state governors and emirs to lead the campaign for girl-child education.

The Sultan who spoke on ‘Motherhood and Leadership’ at the event  explained that, “the myriad of problems confronting the country starts from our homes.”
He said:
“If Nigeria is to see the change its citizens have been yearning for, women must start the crusade against corruption right from home. Nigerians must be ready to be the change they voted for during the last presidential election. Women must discuss corruption and ask questions from their husbands about their ill-gotten wealth especially from those who are public office holders.
“If you notice that your husbands, few months after becoming public officers, started buying exotic cars, building houses all over the place, ask questions on the source of that sudden wealth.
As women, you must add your voice to issues affecting our country, formulate policies where anyone seeking public office must listen to you even if they don’t like it”.
Abubakar stressed the need for women to ensure that they raise responsible children for the overall well-being of the society.
He said the religious and ethnic diversity which Allah had endowed the country with should be leveraged upon to move her forward.

In his key note address, Dr. AbdulRauf Wale Babalakin acknowledged the positive role mothers could play in moulding their children.

10-Day-Old Baby Dies After Being Eaten By Rats In Hospital

A 10-day-old baby boy died after being eaten up by rats in an Indian hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit. Parents of the deceased child said the rats chewed their sick child’s left eye, face, chest and hands after climbing into his incubator.

The distraught mother Chavali Lakshmi (pictured above), accused doctors of ignoring her pleas to keep rats out of the ward and failing to treat her child when he was found covered in blood. She said that days earlier, her son’s toes were bitten by the rats but medics did nothing to stop it happening again.

The mum said: “My son was not killed by the rats. He was killed by the doctors and staff at the government general hospital.”

The child's father said: “We suspected the danger a week ago and requested the staff to save our son. They were not bothered as they did not take our word seriously.”

He alleged that the doctors told them not to worry too much about his death as they have another son aged two. The case has caused outrage in India with protests at the clinic in the city of Guntur.

Meanwhile India's Health minister has ordered an urgent probe and three hospital staff have been suspended.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has stormed and occupied the Lagos home of Chika Egwu Udensi, a crew member of the Arik Air flight W3101, who was arrested with 20 kilogrammes of cocaine at the London Heathrow Airport.

The NDLEA moved to the house after they had interrogated pilots and flight attendants of the flight that left the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos for London on Monday night. The interrogation lasted for several hours at the NDLEA head office in Lagos.

The guy is just a flight attendant. Some folks love fraud. Good thing is the end of fraud is always bad.

The NDLEA has taken over his house in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State. A source told Punch that the men were “occupying the house, and we will not leave here until we get all the evidence that we want.”

It was gathered that although the operatives had seized the suspect’s Range Rover, the NDLEA was still of the opinion that Udensi had other property.

The source said, “We are investigating if he has other property in Lagos or elsewhere. Some of them live simple lives, but have other valuables stashed everywhere. We are searching for incriminating documents.”

12-Year-Old Girl Hanged Self After Losing Her Mother To Breast Cancer

A 12-year-old school girl whose mother died of breast cancer killed herself after posting self-harm pictures on Instagram, an inquest has heard.

Isabel Ann Richardson, from Norwich, was struggling with feelings she was ‘worthless’ and ’empty’ after losing her mother Karina to the disease in 2010.

But despite speaking to a school nurse at Hewett School, she was overcome by her sadness and on May 12, discovered hanging in her bedroom by her father.

Earlier that evening, Isabel’s father Stephen Richardson was called by her brother about distressing images she had posted online.
Entering her bedroom to check on her, he found her hanging and she was rushed to hospital. She died six days later.

The inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard Isabel had told her father about the self harming five weeks prior to her death.

After he was informed, the two began speaking to a school nurse and were referred to bereavement service Nelson’s Journey. Isabel was also due to speak to a youth service counsellor the day after she was found dead.

The inquest heard Mr Richardson said his daughter told him she had stopped hurting herself and he thought she was a lot happier since the meetings.

However, he added: ‘I was aware of her self harm, but I never thought for a second she would do anything like take her own life.

‘I will always think I could have done more.’
Coroner Jacqueline Lake recorded a narrative verdict – saying it wasn’t clear if Isabel had intended to take her life.

She said: ‘Although she hanged herself, this could have been a cry for help.’

35-year-old Daniel Anowa Steven (pictured above) have been arrested by the Akwa Ibom police command for beheading 31-year-old Daniel Bassey Solomon, the brother of his girlfriend at his one-room apartment in Itu Street, Uyo, the state capital.

According to Vanguard, Steven had just moved from Uruan in Akwa Ibom to Itu street where he met the deceased's sister and began an affair with her two years ago. The deceased who wanted to start a barber's shop business, approached Steven who gave him a loan of N700,000 with a promise that he will pay within a time frame. See photo after the cut but be warned...

Trouble started after Steven demanded for his money back. He claims that Daniel refused to pay him back and instead shouted at him. After weeks of quarreling, an angry Steven decided that the best way to deal with the defaulting Solomon was to kill him. Confessing to the crime, Steven said he invited Solomon to his house where he offered him a drink which he had already drugged. After Solomon had fallen asleep under the influence of the drug, Steven proceeded to behead him.
"At about 3a.m, I decided to kill him. I gave him the first cut and the guy got up. I gave him a second one and then he died and I butchered him to parts. When I invited him to my house that day, he started shouting and getting angry with me, so I killed him. I am not dealing on body parts, I only cut him to pieces to be able to carry him.” he said
Steven brought out a rope and tied the neck of the deceased to a bed in his one-room apartment and then stabbed him on the chest with a knife sharpened and kept for the purpose. According to him, the deceased died without much resistance. He said he used the machete to cut off the head and dismembered each of the body parts of his friend. He is currently in police custody.

Photo: 87-Year-Old 'Unicorn Woman' Set To Have 'Horn' Removed From Head

A 87-year-old woman named Liang Xiuzhen (pictured above) in Guiyan village in Ziyang City, is set to undergo a surgery to remove a unicorn horn from her head in south-west China’s Sichuan Province. The elderly woman, known locally as the 'unicorn woman' because of the 13cm-long horn on top of her head which began to grow about 2 years ago. Doctors are astounded by the abnormal growth.

According to Wang Chaojun, Xiuzhen’s son, the growth started about 8 years ago
"My mother complained about this mole-like growth on her head that itched all the time. We found ways to cure her itch using traditional Chinese medicine, and then left it be."
But two years ago, the mole turned to a growth...which rapidly grew into this horn in about 6 months.

"Now the horn hurts my mother and prevents her from sleeping. It also bleeds from time to time." the son said.
Doctors in China say it's "cornu cutaneum" (cutaneous horn), a keratinous skin tumour that has the appearance of a horn. Often small and benign, the growth can in some cases be much larger and malignant. The doctors say they can remove the growth through surgery but her family have reservations because of the woman's age
"My mother is old, and the horn is on her head which is a very sensitive area. I’m not confident in the idea of surgery. If something goes wrong during surgery, it would be terrible." the son said. He also said they are considering other option.

Photo: Young Girl Killed Her Fiancé Over Sex Disagreement In Lagos

A 24-year-old lady, now in police net, has explained while she stabbed her fiancé, Edet Ebong, to death with a kitchen knife. The lady, identified as Blessing Edet, told our correspondent that the quarrel and subsequent fight which led to Ebong’s death was over sex.

Blessing, residing at Ogombo village, Lekki in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, said Ebong got angry and pounced on her after she refused him sex. Recalling the fateful incident of August 18, she said: “We lay down to sleep and he started making advances on me for sex. I told him I had a hectic day and was tired. He flared up and started beating me.

“He broke the standing mirror in the room and injured me above my left eye with the broken glass. In defence, I ran to pick up the kitchen knife I had used while preparing ‘Indomie’ noodles for him. I mistakenly stabbed him in the stomach.” Rather than look for ways to stem the blood flowing out from his stomach, Ebong allegedly continued to chase his lover round the room until he became too weak.

Blessing recounted: “After stabbing him, the fight continued. He went under the bed, brought out a cutlass and said he was going to kill me. It was at this point that my younger brother who had been trying to stop us, but to no avail, rushed out to call neighbours. “My landlord heard the shout and rushed into our room. He saw Edet bleeding while I was holding a knife. He alerted the police and Edet was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately he died two days after.” The love birds had been engaged for the past 18 months and were at the verge of finalising their marriage plans when the tragedy occurred.

The late Ebong, an employee of Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC), had returned to home around 11pm on that fateful day. Blessing, who described herself as an orphan, added: “Edet was my fiancé. We have been in a relationship for about 18 months now. However, six months ago, he had trouble with his accommodation; so I told him to move in with me since we were already engaged.

“We have never had a misunderstanding before. But on that fateful day, I had just returned from the day’s business and was resting when he came in. Edet came in drunk. He requested I prepare ‘Indomie’ noodles for him, which I did. “After eating, he asked me of the engagement ring he had given to me. I told him it was on the table.

This was before he started beating me. Sincerely, I stabbed unintentionally, even while he was in the hospital, I prayed he would survive. I don’t know what came over him that day. We had good plans for the future.

He was not just a lover but also a brother.” Blessing said that she started living alone four years ago, after her aunt told her that her presence in her home was making her husband uncomfortable. The woman assisted Blessing and her kid brother to secure a room apartment. It was this home that Ebong later came to join her. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Patricia Amadin, said she was still trying to access the full details of the incident at press time. But a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “It was around 12am and 1am when they started fighting.

They were disturbing the peace of the entire village. I heard the argument. It was about noddle which Blessing’s boyfriend, Obong, asked her to prepare. She prepared it without adding ‘Sardine’ which he had requested.

“The argument led to a fight. Blessing later stabbed Obong. She shouted ‘I will stab you with knife’. And that was what she did. She ripped open the man’s stomach.” Another resident said: “The two friends are from Akwa Ibom State. But Blessing, who is a prostitute, rented a room in this village. Then, she started bearing Amaka. She has no other work than to be sleeping with men and clubbing.”

The resident added that a few months ago, the two lovers had a quarrel which made Blessing to throw out Obong’s belongings from her room. According to her, it was when Blessing could not cope again that she mended fence with Edet.

A 29-year-old German man Demetrius Soupolos is suing his 34-year-old neighbour, Frank Maus for breach of contract after the latter failed to impregnate his wife in 72 different attempts to do so. Soupolos had hired Maus to impregnate his former beauty queen wife Traute as he was sterile and Traute wanted a baby badly.

He thought Maus would be a good choice as he resembled him and is a father of two. Soupolos paid Maus Sh260,000 for the job and for three evenings a week for the next six months, Maus tried desperately a total of 72 times to impregnate Traute.

When Traute did not get pregnant after six months, Soupolos insisted Maus go for a medical examination which revealed he was sterile as well. Mau’s wife was then forced to confess Maus was not the real father of her two kids. In his defence, Maus said he did not ‘guarantee’ conception, but only that he would give a ‘honest’ shot at it. Photo: 2-Robbery Suspects Escape From Police Cell In Lagos

Three robbery suspects, who were arrested while they were operating on Iju Road, in the Agege Area of Lagos State, have escaped from the police cell.

The 3 suspected members of the gang, which reportedly laid siege to a hotel and some residences of Sands Avenue, off Iju Road, had been handed over to the Pen Cinema Police Division, before two of them escaped from the cell.

It was gathered that policemen, who were on duty on the fateful day, had been arrested, while the fleeing suspects had yet to be re-arrested.

Our correspondent learnt that on Sunday, August 9, at about 2am, the armed robbers, said to be about 10 men, invaded the area, and robbed a hotel and some private homes. It was learnt that the robbers carted away money and valuables from the hotel lodgers, workers, and other places during the operation.

PUNCH Metro gathered that men of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, who were the local vigilance group in the area, however, apprehended three of the robbers and took them to the Pen Cinema Police Division.

Our correspondent learnt that the three robbery suspects, identified as Dare Drain, Akeem AK, and LekanStudent, were locked up in the cell by the policemen on duty.

It was gathered that on Wednesday evening, two of the suspects had, however, cut through the burglar bars in the cell, and escaped from custody.

Victims of the robbery and the OPC men, who were aggrieved by the development, were said to have been invited by a policemen in the station, who pacified them that the robbers would be re-arrested.

When PUNCH Metro visited Sands Avenue on Tuesday, the manager of the hotel, which was robbed, declined to give any comment.

However, one of the workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the robbers carted away a huge amount of money and also injured the hotel’s guard.
He added that the robbers raped some of the hotel’s female workers, who had yet to resume work.
He said,
“The robbery lasted for more than an hour. We were helpless. The robbers overpowered our security guard and injured him.
“They carted away valuables. They raped some of our female workers during the operation. I was told that the OPC men later caught three of them and took them to the police station.”

The OPC coordinator in the area, who did not want his name in print, said they were taken aback when the police in the Pen Cinema station told them that two of the suspects escaped from the cell.

He added that the suspects, who had yet to be re-arrested, raped some of their victims during the operation, including a 13-year-old.

“The security man at the hotel, who is our member, recognised one of the robbers and led us to his place, where he was arrested. The man confessed to taking part in the operation. His name is DareDrain, and he was caught in the Idi-Agbon area of Ifako.

“He was the one who took the OPC men to arrest the other two. The three that were caught on Sunday were taken to the police station.

“It was on Wednesday that information got to us that Drain and Akeem have escaped from the cell. We were shocked at the development. The DPO then invited us, and pleaded with us to assist the police with information to re-arrest them, adding that the policemen on duty had been detained.

“But as we speak, we have not got them. What the police told us was that the robbers cut the burglar bars, and escaped from the cell. The robbers, apart from carting away money, also raped their victims.

“The robbers were led by Dare Drain, he and his boys had earlier come to Tarkwa Crescent, before the Sands Avenue incident.”
